Steeped with history, wrapped in family lore, enhanced by long standing family traditions, this family heirloom is the emotional center for generations of family members.
Our family is spread all over the country, living in many places at different times in their lives. One thing has remained constant for each of us... this very special place is where our hearts belong.
In today's world, stability and belonging are a rare and wonderful thing. Every descendant in this family has lived and loved with this stable foundation at their core for almost 100 years... we hope the next 5 generations of our family will enjoy it for the next 100.
It began in 1919 when our family patriarch Ben Marsh found an old, abandoned house in the small Northern Michigan town of Elk Rapids. Boarded up for eleven years, it wasn't much to look at then - but he saw the potential. One big white 'cottage' and six lots has expanded to three houses (the big cottage, the brown cottage and the green cottage) and the carriage house with the second generation. Lots of family meant we needed more room. So generation three started expanding into surrounding homes - the house east of the big cottage (Elk Reynolds), building a new house on a lot up Traverse, and another on Iasco, and most recently the little green house on Traverse. Elk Rapids, you are surrounded...
Five generations of family have shared this home enjoying warm summer days, swimming in the bay, and mostly spending quality quality time together. It started with the Marshes, then Weyhings, Bergmanns, more Marshes, Smiths, Tappounis, Reynolds, Ettawageshiks ... check out the Generations section - it's impressive.
Countless furry family members have enjoyed this special place with us. Many are buried on Sunset Hill... Snoophie, Blackie, Rags, Lance, Toby, Lady, Tiger, Abbie, Smokie, Jazz, Whatmo, Bogey, Koda and others are all running around in spirit with us. Carmel, Daisy and Athena scamper around and occasionally engage the local wildlife (skunk!).
We want to establish a family heritage trust to maintain this home and property... to that end, please go to craiglist Tampa and search 'in1919' to purchase items that are being sold to support this initiative. Check back frequently, items being added every day.
